2010-07-15 17:53:26 - Nestea - How to find the price(s) of an item.
This is just a post to better assist players in finding the "prices" of items. Mostly to help new players find the value of an item and those who do not sell/trade often.
I have noticed that some players are asking for a P/C of some fairly common items which were recently given a price check. Instead of waiting for a reply, which may take days, you can find the price(s) of item(s) yourself. All you have to do is use "CTRL + F".
*Depending on your browser/version, you may have a "pop up" or a "toolbar" will come up and asks you to what you want to 'Find'. Just type in what you want to find. It may also tell you the number of "matches found".*
eg. If I wanted to know the price of an "apple" - I would click on "Forum" > "Food" and then use "CTRL + F" and type in "apple".
It will find the last "apple" that was auctioned off. If you click "Next" it will find the "apple" auction that ended just
before that. Just divide final auction price / quantity to get price per item. I suppose you can use a few auctions to get a "range" of the average price for an item because prices are not always the same (+/- a few vessi).
If I wanted to find the price of an "oboe" I would go to "equipment" instead. It would be the same process as searching for the price(s) of an apple.
The auctions goes back about 1 month. You should be able to find plenty of items that were listed/sold over the past month.
However, should you be unfortunate enough to not be able to find anything because no one has sold a certain item (eg. bloody staff), I would suggest posting a P/C post then.
I hope this helps everyone who did not know how to search for prices of item(s) or at least save some time
If this post did help you, one way or another, please bump this so that it may help someone else - thank you

Another issue you have to deal with is the fact of Market Change.
Market Change is usually considered that after a week, 7 days, a price is no longer valid because of the market constantly changing. This is especially true on foods and materials for foods.
Not so true on common equipment, or other common items, but can also deal with ores as well, at some points.

As I stated:
'I suppose you can use a few auctions to get a "range" of the average price for an item because prices are not always the same (+/- a few vessi).'
Obviously, prices do fluctuates - that's why I suggested getting an average price of an item. You are just reiterating what I said, but thank you Gwachi
It is not like one week the price for an apple is 10V then the next week it's 20V. Prices fluctuates the most for 'new' items that are introduced (eg. Fountain Card, Oboe etc.).
I started playing in 2009, the price of parsley back then was about 35-40V. It is still about the same price now. Some things just never change

I was just helping by clarifying one of the old issues, i know of plenty more if you need them in this, but I'd wait until it was stickied. If it does become stickied, otherwise I'll just add them as I remember them.

Great advice for new players although I'm sure we all figure it out sooner or later.
Bonus hint for guild leaders: When trying to price an item in your guild shop use http://www.movoda.net/man/shops as a guide. If you dig around a bit you can find the price the NPC buys each item for at different trading lvls. I generally price common equip etc. at a few vessi above the highest price in the chart. That way pi doesn't buy out my entire supply

You must have missed that part of the original post wickedone.
"However, should you be unfortunate enough to not be able to find anything because no one has sold a certain item (eg. bloody staff), I would suggest posting a P/C post then."
Was just trying to reduce the amount of spam for price checks of common items that are asked about frequently.

some items might be too far back in the forum logs to use this feature however, making a new price check post or asking in world is perfectly ok at these kind of times this has been said many times before so bumping this post isnt as helpful as some might think it is

Pi buys every item in the game. If nothing else this should give you a baseline for most items (some are worth more then she pays)
