Oval Mining Hole – Requires Mining level <= 13 (assumption is level 1)
– Gives Tin Ore

Round Mining Hole – Requires Mining level between 14 and 22 (inclusive) (assumption is level 20)
– Gives 1 – 2 Coal per action
– Has a chance of dropping 1 silver ore

Square Mining Hole – Requires Mining level between 48 and 52 (inclusive) (assumption is level 50)
– Gives 1 – 2 Bauxite per action

Mining in these special locations give +50% xp instead of the +40% that's available elsewhere and have a reduced base timer.
