Destiny
Fire spewed from its open maw
Accompanied by a deafening roar
As over the fearful village it flew
None below knew what to do
The news did spread both far and wide
And e’en across the Great Divide
To one’s ears this tale did fall
A figure of over six feet tall
He pondered on these words of woe
Knowing that he had to go
The last of his kind, up he stood
Pulled o’er his head a woollen hood
In the firelight his armour shone
Showing scars of battles won
From the wall he pulled his sword
Mind and weapon in one accord
His mount, pure white, strong and proud
With one single purpose too avowed
Its master’s safety to sustain
And its own integrity to retain
The warrior did his fine lance shoulder
In his eyes dark wrath did smoulder
This would be his final stand
His skill no longer in demand
Many a league did he so ride
Through and past the Great Divide
Then he came to that great place
Where he did meet it face to face
The monster dove with evil strong
The villagers gathered in a throng
The knight did proudly stand his ground
A spirit deep within him found
The dragon leapt upon the knight
Bent on victory in the fight
The warrior swung his mighty sword
And through the fleshy wing he gored
Hurt the beast did move aback
The knight he charged on the attack
Turning to meet the man’s advance
It did not see the deadly lance
Through the dragon’s throat it slid
The knight then made a final bid
With his sword into its heart
Did he the coup de grace impart
The knight had saved this village small
He was thanked by one and all
A true hero was he made
Many a gift was on him laid
His honour was his breath of life
Gone now was the age of strife
To the code he strict remanined
And upheld his task ordained
He had not feared that he would lose
As he knew that he could choose
The way the future would unfold
A postulate, so the legend told
