There is a crowding penalty of 2 seconds per miner.
Each two levels you gain appears to lower your timer by 1 second. No gain was noticed when I advanced to level 22.

Re: Lost Miners Day Which gems drop is mainly determined by the location/ore you are mining at, certain gems are much more common than others in certain areas. Drop frequency is just affected by the +gem finding modifier, not mining level.
I see the logic of this. In Drosser you have low grade gems that are as easy to find as other spots that give higher grade gems. However your mining level allows you to unlock these sites with better gems. In this way your level does improve the quality of gems that you find. However if you are a level 30 miner and you choose to mine in Drosser, you chance of finding a gem is just as good as the level 3 miner right beside you.
